Te Pae Kōkako is heading to Australia

Opera singers

The students of Waikato University’s Aotearoa New Zealand Opera Studio (TANZOS) have started their two week residency at Opera Australia, gaining invaluable performance experience and international exposure. The six students will join the Opera Australia Young Artists in sessions on stagecraft and movement. They will receive coaching, attend a music audition workshop and participate in their first audition for an international company in the iconic Sydney Opera House. This fantastic opportunity follows on from their first residency with NZ Opera in NZO’s recent production of Cosi fan tutte.

The Freemasons Foundation is proud to be funding Cecilia Zhang as one of this year’s six inaugural scholars at the University of Waikato. The programme is under the direction of Madeleine Pierard who holds the Dame Malvina Major Chair in Opera. This year’s other talented scholars are Katherine Winitana, Emmanuel Fonoti-Fuimaono, Alfred Fonoti-Fuimaono, Taylor Wallbank and Rhiannon Cooper. Keep an eye out for these talented young stars as their careers develop. To find out more go to www.tanzos.org
