The planting season has started

With 5,275 native plants recorded in the first week of the season, it has been a great start to 2026 and Trees For Survival’s 1 million trees campaign. Schools in Auckland and Waikato have over 250 planting days planned and new regional clusters in Manawatū, Mohua, Canterbury and Southland are also about to begin their planting programmes.

The team at Trees for Survival will be keeping a weekly tally of native plants planted as the 2026 planting season progresses and are looking forward to keeping everyone informed as progress continues. All Trees For Survival partners and supporters, including The Freemasons Foundation, celebrate that their support is not only having a huge effect on native replanting numbers, but also in kilometres of riparian coastline and wetland areas being better protected.

The increased areas of land and water being protected, replanted and restored are all down to the growing number of students, schools and communities having a positive interaction, engagement and impact on their local environments.
