Mātai Medical Research Institute

Freemasons Foundation is supporting a summer intern at Mātai Medical Research Institute in 2025 – an organisation offering Tairāwhiti students enrolled in a NZ University studying health science, computer science, medical, or engineering the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research projects. Interns work alongside expert scientists, clinicians, research staff, PhD students, and Iwi health providers.

Topics covered in the internship include research design, medical imaging, bio-engineering tools, ethics, Mātauranga Māori, community engagement, data management and leadership. Students are given tools to help build confidence as future leaders and role models. The over-arching goal is to inspire lasting, intergenerational change and opportunities within the community.
