The Freemasons funded research project, “Targeting inflammation in Age-related Macular Degeneration”, is being undertaken at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland. It is being carried out by PhD student, Prachi Didmishe, in association with the department Head, Professor Charles McGhee.

We also support Macular Degeneration NZ in their ongoing education and awareness programme, encouraging those at risk about the importance of early detection of this eye disorder. Macular degeneration affects the sight of our aging population with over 25,000 New Zealanders suffering from the most severe form of the disease – a number expected to double over the next twenty years.
