Freemasons and the University of Auckland have more than a thirty-year-long successful relationship in many fields of medical research.
A Chair of Geriatric Medicine was established at the University to mark the Centenary of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. Today the Chair is under the guidance of Professor Martin Connelly. Assistance was later extended to neurological disorders. This ongoing partnership continues under Professor Richard Faull and his team at the University’s Centre for Brain Research. Their work into the causes of such diseases as Alzheimers, Parkinsons and Huntingtons has received glowing international recognition. In tandem with the Freemasons Charity a new Freemasons Chair of Neurosurgery has been established.
